Mark's 1983 Harley Davidson Sportster

Mark's 1983 Harley Davidson Sportster

This is my 1983 Ironhead XLH. I got it in 1999 and immediately started to make it my own. The first thing to go was the buckhorn bars (yuck). I replaced them with drag bars on 4 1/2" pullback risers. This also required relocating the turn signals to the forks.

I rode it the season like that.

The winter mods were the new tank, seat and paint. The tank is from a 1992 Superglide. It was really pretty easy to get it to fit. Take a look at http://home.stlnet.com/~markb/tank.html to see how I did it. The one thing this required was raising the bars some more. Rather than drop a bunch of bucks for 8 inch risers, I had my nephew (he's a machinist) make some 3 inch riser extensions. Worked out great, looks pretty good, and cost NOTHING!!!

The paint scheme is pretty self explanatory. I was going for a "taxi cab on acid" kind of look. I think it turned out pretty good. More pictures can be found at http://home.stlnet.com/~markb/bike.html You can see some more of the detail there.

Future mods will include a bottom mount headlight, lowered shocks, and maybe forward controls.
