John's 1971 Harley Davidson Sportster

John's 1971 Harley Davidson Sportster

This was a basket case I bought back in 1977. I actually bought it for only $250 back then (I kept the original bill of sale). She was blown up, parts were missing and she was going to get parted out. I saved her and invested some big $$$$ into her.

She is a 1971 XLH. She had a blown up rear cylinder from a previous oil pump failure. The rear rod was also bent. I rebuilt the engine, went .040 over on the pistons and put in bronze guides, higher pressure springs, stronger pushrods and a set of Y cams (hee hee). The transmission had to be rebuilt as it was in bad shape. I think I bought the last countershaft 1st gear left on the planet.

She purr's!!!
